Options premiums are rising and we'll discuss how to take advantage of that by generating income through a covered call options strategy. First the consumer price index inflation data came in hotter than expected on Wednesday. The expectation had been that the pace of inflation – once those year-over-year price increases were in place — would slow in March. Since then, the "average" level of the VIX Index is 19.53. Holders could therefore look to options to potentially provide some yield if they are expecting less capital appreciation.

Wall Street returned to its winning ways this week — and Nvidia 's blowout earnings report Wednesday night was a big reason why. Twenty-six of our 32 portfolio stocks have delivered their results this earnings season (we didn't own Abbott Labs at the time of its report). The two other reports of note are the January new home sales report on Monday and ISM Manufacturing report on Friday.

The consumer discretionary and growth/tech sectors are the typically the first ones to take a beating when markets start pulling back. With this view in mind, I am looking to put on a bearish options trade on Domino's Pizza (DPZ) , which belongs to the sector. The Trade Setup: DPZ $410-$415 bear call spread With a bearish directional bias in place, the trade structure I have chosen is called a bear call spread also known as a call credit spread. To construct my trade, I will want to sell a $410 call option and buy a $415 call option as a single unit. So it is best not to trade when an earnings event overlaps your trade window.

Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., September 11, 2023. Revenue at the pizza delivery company was down about 4% from the same period last year, as restaurants in the U.S. sold less. Walgreens, meanwhile, lost $180 million in the quarter, while citing significantly lower revenue from Covid tests and vaccines. Meanwhile, Delta delivered record revenue for the quarter, with 30% earnings growth year-on-year, and is quickly repaying debt it took on during the chaos of 2020. While there’s no room for complacency about future shocks, third-quarter earnings might provide a bookend to a strange, turbulent time.

Oppenheimer has regained its appetite for Domino's Pizza shares. Analyst Brian Bittner named the Michigan-based pizza chain a top pick and raised his price target to $450. "We view DPZ as an under-appreciated revival story into '24, and elevate the idea into our 'top picks,'" Bittner said in a note to clients Tuesday. But Bittner tied that past pessimism to a downward revision cycle that he now believes has ended. "Following an updated analysis, we believe EPS estimates have bottomed and identify self-help catalysts for a positive revision cycle set to unfold," he said.

Domino's Pizza will close in Russia

London CNN —Domino’s Pizza will close all its outlets in Russia, becoming one of the first major Western fast-food chains to exit the country since McDonald’s and Starbucks left more than a year ago. DP Eurasia — the company that owns franchise rights for the Domino’s Pizza brand in Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia — said Monday that it would file for bankruptcy for its Russian unit, DPRussia. The move highlights the increasingly hard choices facing Western firms that stayed in Russia after the start of the Ukraine war. The Kremlin has made it vastly more difficult and more costly for Western companies to sell their Russian businesses. Starbucks became Stars Coffee and McDonald’s is now “Vkusno i tochka,” which translates to “Tasty, period.”In a statement, New York-listed Domino’s Pizza Inc (DPZ).

U.S. fast-food chains add automation to boost speed

With mass shortages of low-cost labor due to the pandemic, chains shifted to technology investments in their kitchens to fill the gap. The addition of automation tools in restaurant chains could cut down on wait times, driving higher consumer engagement and increasing sales for the rest of the year, restaurant executives say. Thirty-six percent of 1,000 U.S. people told HungerRush in a survey in May that they believed major restaurant chains don’t have enough staff to take orders, prepare food, and handle deliveries. Last year, Domino's Pizza Enterprises announced an automated pizza prep device in partnership with Picnic Works, a Seattle-based food-automation startup. "Anytime there's new automation, it creates new kinds of jobs," said Gaurav Kachhawa, chief product officer at Gupshup, a conversational messaging platform.
